What is Modelo 22?

Modelo 22 is Portugal's annual IRC (corporate income tax) return. Every entity subject to IRC — virtually all Lda., SA, and similar companies resident in Portugal — must file it each year, regardless of whether the year produced a profit or a loss. It is submitted electronically via the Portal das Financas, and it is the legal instrument through which companies declare their taxable income and compute the IRC they owe or are owed back.

Who is required to file Modelo 22?

When is the Modelo 22 deadline?

The statutory deadline under CIRC art. 120 is 31 May each year (for entities on a calendar-year tax period). Extensions may be granted by government despacho in exceptional circumstances — plan for 31 May as the working deadline each year. Late filing can expose the company to applicable penalties, plus compensatory interest on any unpaid tax.

The IES annual declaration (due by mid-July, for financial statements) is also cross-referenced with Modelo 22 by AT.
